Some workouts look intimidating in photos: people flying on bungee cords, bouncing on trampolines or hanging upside down in hammocks. In practice, all three are designed to take load off your joints, and beginners are very welcome. Here is what actually happens.
Bungee fitness
In bungee fitness you wear a harness attached to a bungee cord overhead. The cord supports part of your weight as you run, jump and “fly”, and adds resistance when you pull against it.
- First class: a harness fitting and safety briefing, then simple cardio and strength drills while you get used to the lift.
- How it feels: more like play than a workout — most people laugh a lot in the first ten minutes.
- Good for: anyone who wants a low-impact, high-fun workout that is easy on the joints.
Trampoline workout
A trampoline workout uses individual mini-trampolines. You bounce, jog and jump to music, with toning moves in between.
- First class: learning to bounce with control and keep your balance before the routines speed up.
- How it feels: hard work for your legs and core, but kinder to your knees than running on a road.
- Good for: anyone who wants intense cardio with less impact.
Aerial yoga
Aerial yoga uses a soft fabric hammock suspended from the ceiling. It supports you through familiar yoga poses, deep stretches and gentle inversions.
- First class: getting comfortable sitting and leaning into the hammock, supported stretches and, if you are ready, a first gentle inversion.
- How it feels: surprisingly relaxing — most classes end with a floating rest in the hammock.
- Good for: beginners and experienced yogis alike, because the hammock takes your weight and lets you go deeper.
What to wear and bring
- Fitted clothes that cover your underarms and the backs of your knees — harnesses and hammock fabric can rub bare skin.
- No jewellery, zips or belts, which can snag the equipment.
- Water and a small towel.
- A light stomach: avoid a heavy meal in the two hours before, especially before aerial yoga.
Is it safe for me?
These classes are low-impact, but they are not for everyone on every day. If you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, a heart condition, glaucoma, recent surgery or an injury, speak to your doctor first and tell the instructor before class begins.
Where to try them
D Planet runs bungee fitness, trampoline and aerial yoga sessions in North Delhi. Specialty sessions use rigging and smaller groups, and the equipment is installed at specific branches — so call before you come and we will tell you which branch to head to. Your first class is a free trial.
